Teresa Baker & Michelle Tanner

Mother & Daughter Funeral Directors

Teresa Baker

I have over 20 years of experience as a Funeral Director, working for a National Company in Brighton and then setting up my own company, Caring Lady Funeral Directors, with 6 locations throughout the south coast.

Due to my husband having a small stroke in 2008, we came to the decision to sell the business in 2009 to Mutual Services Portsmouth Ltd. I have had no connection or involvement with Caring Lady Funeral Directors since November 2009.

I was born and raised in Hangleton, Hove and went to three local schools; Knoll Infants, Goldstone Junior and Knoll Girls School. My family still live in the Hangleton area.  I live in Worthing with my husband Paul and his little Yorkshire terrier dog, Buster.

Having taken a period of time out. I have decided to join my daughter Michelle in her business. Michelle opened in December 2010.

Michelle worked alongside me at Caring Lady for 9 years. So, it’s a reunion of mother & daughter working together. We are both excited about working together again, and providing our families with the care, attention to detail, dignity and support we can provide.

Whilst I was on my time out I decided to do the training course for a funeral celebrant which means I am able to conduct funeral services, for families that do not want a traditional Church of England or religious funeral service.

Michelle Tanner

My name is Michelle and I am Teresa Baker’s daughter.  I was born and raised in Hangleton, Hove and now live in Worthing with my husband Daniel, who I married in September 2015, and our son Kai, who was born in 2017.

After working with my mother, Teresa Baker, for 12 years, and due to the sale of her business to Mutual Services Ltd, I decided to set up my own business.  My specific aim is to meet and exceed my clients’ expectations and offer a truly personal service.

In March 2012, after taking a break from the profession, my mother joined me in my business – we are one of Brighton & Hove’s last remaining independent family funeral directors.

Sharon Wilson

My name is Sharon, I was born in Brighton and raised in Woodingdean.  I now live in Sompting with my husband Tony.  We have been married for 12 years.  I have two sons, a step daughter and a step son and have seven grandchildren.

I have worked in the funeral profession for many years, part of which I owned my own business.  I have worked for Teresa before at her previous business, Caring Lady Funeral Directors, where I also worked with Michelle.  Funeral Directing has been part of me for most of my life, as my father was a Funeral Director all of his working days.
